If the manufacturer is to provide the enclosure, it is an Enclosed Lift.
An Enclosed platform lift is designed to meet the requirements of ASME A18.1, so all platform sizes and running clearances have been taken into consideration, and the lift constructed accordingly.
The entrances to the lift are incorporated into the lift’s enclosure, which requires you to provide only the required structural support and entry and exit points.
While an Enclosed wheelchair lift may have a higher upfront cost than a Shaftway Lift, it’s essential to account for the cost of construction of the shaft for a fair comparison.
Meet Joshua, the General Manager of Alexander’s Steak House in Peoria, IL, as he shares his firsthand experience with the installation of a Symmetry Enclosed VPL.
Discover how this exceptional lift, installed by an authorized Cibes Symmetry dealer, has transformed their accessibility.
There are two enclosure options to choose from:
The Symmetry Enclosure VPL has a rated load of 750 lbs. The lift moves as a speed of 10-20 fpm (depending on drive option).
Unlike a residential elevator, constant pressure on the call button is required when calling the lift to the appropriate landing and when a passenger sends the lift to the desired level.
Landing interlocks keep doors closed/locked when the platform is at another landing, ensuring safety at all times.
There are a variety of drive options to choose from with the Symmetry Enclosed platform lift:
*Per code, the ventilation system is required when the VPL-ELP has clear plexiglass and is exposed to direct sunlight.
Symmetry's VPLs are available with a sloped roof. The sloped roof option for VPL-EL and VPL-ELP applications protects the lift and the passenger from weather. Symmetry's roof option is available as single sloped or double sloped and is painted to match the finish of your lift.
This is an optional feature for VPL-EL and VPL-ELP units manufactured with a roof, located at the top landing of the lift, allowing air exchange. Thermostat controlled to activate when the temperature reaches 90-degrees, the power ventilation system will assist in improving passenger comfort by circulating air once per minute when the lift is active.
The benefit of the Enclosed wheelchair lift is that the manufacturer has designed and built the lift to meet specific code requirements, removing the need for site adjustments to bring the lift into compliance.
The Enclosed wheelchair lift is designed and manufactured to comply with ASME A18.1, ICC A117.1, and NFPA 70.
Do vertical platform lifts need a lift pit?
Vertical platform lifts can be installed on grade or within a pit. If installed in a pit, there will be a smooth transition from the finished floor to the lift platform, otherwise a ramp will need to be provided to overcome the transition. A pit will need to be provided with proper drainage to prevent the collection of water.
What is the difference between a wheelchair lift and a vertical platform lift?
A vertical platform lift is a specific type of wheelchair lift. Vertical platform lifts have a platform which travels straight up and down, as opposed to an incline such as a staircase. The vertical platform lifts from Cibes Symmetry are available for residential or commercial use. Commercial vertical platform lifts are approved in the ADA Accessibility Guidelines as a means to provide unassisted entry and exit from buildings, service or recreational facilities.
How can you make a building accessible for every visitor?
Designing an accessible building has many layers. An elevation change of greater than 1/2 inch is considered an architectural barrier. To overcome an elevation change, a ramp, lift, or elevator should be used. Contact a Cibes Symmetry representative to find the best solution for your site.
