Building

Inside the Audrain building resides the first Symmetry center opening Limited Use, Limited Application (LULA) Elevator.  The Audrain building was constructed in 1902-1903 and designed by architect Bruce Price, the father of Emily Post, who became an authority on proper etiquette.

Renovation was started in February of 2014 and completed in approximately 7 months in September of 2014. At any given time there were more than 175 craftsman on site working on the renovation of the entire building. The addition of a Symmetry LULA Elevator was promoted by Parker Construction Inc., a local Rhode Island construction firm.

Construction

Parker Construction and Elevator Service Company, The Rhode Island Symmetry Elevating Solutions Dealer, had worked on a couple projects previously.

The Renovation

The process of installing the LULA took 2 ½ weeks from delivery to completion with 3 installers participating.  The Elevator has ornate stamped metalwork throughout the exterior of the shaft and ceiling, created by Salmon Studios, while the interior is glass.  The fixtures are Cast bronze and came from CJ Anderson Specialty Fixtures.  The standard LULA brackets were mounted to columns in the shaft.  The second landing door is made from metal and was also created by Salmon Studios.  Even though this Elevator is one of a kind it still has the functionality of a regular LULA Elevator by having Fire Service and all other standard features of a LULA Elevator.

The Building itself had many regulations that had to be followed as far as Renovation was concerned.  Historical regulations did not affect the installation of the LU\LA but the unit must undergo a yearly inspection and a Full Load Test every five years.

Due to the one of a kind nature of the project there was a lead generated for a 4 stop Hydraulic Residential Elevator located in a local Mansion.
